Yuko Katakawa

YUKO KATAKAWA is a Japanese-born illustrator who studied art at an early age, then changed her focus to Japanese classic literature in college. After moving to the U.S., her love for art and words led her down the path of creating picture books. Yuko’s debut book, LET’S SCARE BEAR (Holiday House), is based on the story “Manju Kowai” (“Scared of Buns”). It has its roots in rakugo, a form of traditional Japanese oral storytelling. LET’S SCARE BEAR was named as an ALA Notable Children’s Book. Yuko currently lives and works in New York. Visit her online at yukokatakawa.com and Instagram.
